Entirely done in the field, stalking the butterflies with my paint box blu-tacked to a small painting board. This is absolutely and unashamedly in the style (and method) of the wonderful and much missed David Measures. It is a compelling way of painting butterflies and I've not found a more rewarding approach, and certainly none that works as well for capturing the vitality of these insects.
